A few people have been wondering where I’ve been hiding for the past 11 months as I haven’t posted anything on this site or my main YouTube Channel.
To be honest, 2015 was a crazy year for me as all my time went into a couple of other online and offline projects. Either way, I’m back with a goal and a great list of tutorials ready to create and share with you and my subscribers.
Free Voice Recognition From Google
Today I’m going to share with you Google’s very own voice recognition feature that’s 100% free for Chrome users with a Google account. I’m also going to post a short 2 minutes video below to let you see the software in action.
I should point out that over the years, I’ve played around with several different voice recognition apps and software programs. I tested Dragon Naturally Speaking software about 5 years ago and it worked well, but it was a trial version and I couldn’t afford to purchase it at the time.
Dragon Naturally Speaking was back then and I’m sure it still is now one of the best voice recognition software programs around. Mainly because you the user has to train the software to learn how you pronounce words and talk. The only downside is it’s not free.
So if you watched the video above you’ll know that the “Voice Typing” feature works pretty well. Sure it wasn’t perfect but most people have a hard time understanding what I say because of my lisp and accent. You should hear the employees at Tim Hortons drive thru when I attempt to order a simple “Plain bagel toasted with butter”.
How To Use Google Voice Typing
Step 2: Go to your Google Drive account. If you haven’t signed up for Google Drive, don’t worry everyone with a Google account gets one free.
Step 3: Open up a new Google Docs or any Google document you wish to edit.
Step 4: Plug in a good microphone, laptop built in microphones normally aren’t that good but may still work for you.
Step 5: In your Google Docs menu, select Tools>> Then select “Voice Typing”.
Step 6: Whenever you wish to use the voice typing/recognition feature, simply click on the microphone icon.
If you don’t use Google Chrome you’ll notice that the “Voice Typing” option is grayed out, that’s because it’s a Chrome-only feature, but if you use another browser you can install another voice recognition program via the addons, just do a little search and give one of them a test.
Transcribing Videos with Voice Typing
Some of my Youtube videos have transcripts, they do help with ranking, but it’s always been something I hate doing. I’m a slow typer who still uses between 4 and 6 fingers when typing. Using Googles voice typing software has now made this process far easier.
