Today I’m going to be showing you how to use Contact Form 7 plugin to create your own contact form within your wordpress blog/site.
It’s recommended to have a contact page on every website you build. This way visitors can contact you via whatever method you provide.
Now a contact page with an easy to understand contact form is a great feature on any website in my opinion, not to mention it makes your website look professional.
Should You Use Contact Form 7 Or Another Plugin?
I personally use and recommend Contact Form 7 to everyone because it’s what I’ve been using for several years now. But there are several other contact form plugins available for wordpress, so you may find others work better for you.
From my experience with other contact form plugins I’ve found that they either don’t work so well, the form isn’t responsive, or they have limited feature trying to get you to purchase a pro version.
With Contact Form 7 you can create and customize your forms however you want them to appear, forms are also now fully responsive and mobile friendly.
To reduce spam and having robots message you via the contact form, it’s recommended to integrate another captcha plugin called Really Simple CAPTCHA. This plugin is also created by the same author, so you can be sure when Takayuki Miyoshi updates either plugin it’s going to still work with the other plugin.
How To Setup & Configure Contact Form 7 Plugin Video
I created this video tutorial over a year ago for my youtube channel and members of the wealthy Affiliate community. As the contact form 7 plugin settings and appearance hasn’t changed you’ll still be able to follow along and create your own contact forms.
If you’d like to see/use the code I’m using on my contact page you can copy/paste the code below, the only thing different that I’ve added is the captcha code to reduce spam.
<p>[text* your-name]Your Name*</p> <p>[text* your-email]<label>Your Email*</p> <p>[text your-subject]Subject:</p> <p>[textarea your-message]</p> <h5>Are you human?</h5> <p>Please enter the four characters into the field below: [captchac captcha-400 bg:#fff600 size:m]</p> <p>[captchar captcha-400]</p> <p>[submit "Send Message"]</p>
My Contact Form 7 Doesn’t Work
Now for most people you’re not going to have any problems with the Contact Form 7 plugin, but a small percent of you may run into the following error. This is because some hosting services setup the server so you can only send mail if it’s being sent via the domain.
So when you attempt to submit/send a message via the contact form you’ll get the following error message:
