If you are you’re not alone as it’s something I’ve personally been asked several times by other members inside the Wealthy Affiliate community. A couple of people just wanted to learn how to share a PDF file on their wordpress blog and allow visitors to download the PDF file, but a few people wanted to know how to embed a PDF file into a wordpress post or page, allowing visitors to view the PDF file from within the actual wordpress post or page.
As I like to create video tutorials I decided to create and share the following video, the video covers both methods, uploading a PDF and sharing via a link within a blog post and also how to embed PDF in wordpress without having to navigate away from the current page.
1: Uploading & Sharing A PDF File
When creating or editing a wordpress post or page that you wish to share the PDF file on, you simply click on the “Add Media” icon, select or drag the PDF file from your computer, once uploaded you can edit the title and description if you wish, then press “Insert Into Post”.
Or if the PDF file is already hosted online you can simply enter the hyperlink.
2: Embed PDF in WordPress Post Or Page
To follow along you are going to need to install a wordpress plugin called “Embed PDF”, you can locate and install the plugin from inside the wordpress blog admin area, just enter this search phrase “embed PDF” when searching for a new plugin.
Once you’ve installed and activated the plugin you can embed any PDF file into a blog post or page by wrapping some custom code around the PDF url. As seen in this example below:
It’s important that the URL isn’t a hyperlink, in other words clickable.
Should you want to change the size of the embedded PDF file, you can add a custom width and height details as seen below:
As I mentioned in my video “How To Embed PDF in WordPress” the plugin “Embed PDF” hasn’t been updated in over 400+ days, I’ve just this plugin in the past and never had any problems or conflicts, but you should also be wary of wordpress plugin that haven’t been updated within the last 6 months or so.
Now I personally backup all my wordpress websites so should something go wrong installing a plugin I can always reinstall a working backup copy of my website. If you’d like to see how I backup “How To Create A WordPress Blog Backup”.
Hopefully you found my post and video helpful and have successfully learnt how to embed PDF in WordPress, if you have a question or comment please post them below.
