Why I Don't Use WA Hosting!

Hostgator vs WA Hosting

I've had several Wealthy Affiliate members PM me asking "Why don't you use WA hosting?", so I decided to create this post and explain why.

Well first  off I've been a member of Wealthy Affiliate since April 2007, back then WA didn't offer free web hosting and had far less tools and features then they do today. Kyle & Carson are both great guys and everything they do/add to WA is designed to help you and I succeed online. Lets face it, one thing we all need sooner than later is web hosting.

Before you read on I want to make one thing clear. WA hosting is perfectly capable of running websites and building your business, all I'm doing is pointing out some of the reasons why I don't use WA hosting.

Reason 1: Already Have A Great Web Host!

Over 2 years ago I switched hosting company and joined Hostgator, I've never had any problems with the service and it cost me approximately $8 US per month. I currently have 26 websites many of them have streaming video that's not allowed on WA hosting.

Reason 2: What If I Leave Wealthy Affiliate?

If I ever left Wealthy Affiliate I'd need to find a new web host and transfer 26 websites over, backup all databases, change all DNS setting. I'm guessing to switch all 26 sites over it would take me a full day 8+ hours.

Note: I'll never leave WA unless I get kicked out :P  K&C pay me far more than I pay them every month, so if your a WA member start driving traffic to WA.

Reason 3: Far Less Features Than Hostgator & No Cpanel

Wealthy Affiliate hosting has far less features and options available, they also use Plesk and not Cpanel, my personal opinion is Cpanel is much better and user friendly. With Hostgator I can view my website stats via 3 different scripts in the Cpanel, you can instantly update stats unlike WA that only updates once per day.

Reason 4: Support – If I Need Help I Want It Now Not Later!

Support, now I rarely need any support but that's because I have more experience in this area, if I used Wealthy Affiliate hosting and require support, my option are either contact Kyle & Carson then wait for a response or search/post a message in the forum.

With Hostgator I have access to support within minutes as seen in the video below:

Reason 5: Shared IP & Server Load

Currently ever single website using WA hosting is sharing the same IP address 74.53.174.242 and more than likely using the same server, meaning if some websites hosted on WA hosting all of a sudden received huge amounts of traffic, it's going to affect all other websites speed/load time. It's also possible that the IP 74.53.174.242 could get blacklisted if someone created adult or spam type website.

My current plan with Hostgator also uses a shared IP, but I'm pretty sure it's shared with far less people. I also have the option purchase a Dedicated IP for $2per month or just upgraded to a business plan.

Reason 6: Wordpress – Easier To Install & Run With Hostgator!

Wordpress, I'm a big fan of WP but setting up and using WP on Wealthy Affiliate hosting isn't an easy task, WP admin area features don't work unless you create some security holes. The One-Click WP installation installs version 2.0 so that's no good.

With Hostgator I can install WP 2.8.6 using Fantastico within about 20 seconds, login to my blog and upgraded to the latest version with 2 clicks.

Reason 7: Need More Reasons?

If you need more reasons then I can give you more, but I'm guessing you see my point. Wealthy Affiliate free hosting is fine to get you going especially if you haven't started making sales. Once you start making sales then I strongly consider getting a different web host.

How Much Does Hostgator Cost?

Hostgator always has a 20% OFF coupon code located on the homepage, as seen in the image on the right:

20% OFF is the maximum coupon code you will find, apart from on "Black Friday" as they have a special on that day.

You can also use any of the follow coupon codes to receive discounts

  • SLICKDEALS = $25 OFF Order
  • 404PAGE = First month for $0.01
  • GBB = 20% OFF Order

Use the coupon codes wisely, if you intent on paying for 6 or 12 months hosting then calculate what coupon code will save you the most.

I use the Baby Hosting Plan that would cost $9.95 if you paid monthly and didn't apply any coupon codes, but let me show you how much cheaper you could get the same plan for:

  • 6-Months = $59.70  with 20% OFF  = $47.76  Or $25OFF = $34.70
  • 1 Year = $119.40  with 20% OFF  = $95.52 Or $25OFF = $94.40
  • 2 Years = $214.80 with 20% OFF = $171.84

Do You Offer A Bonus If I Sign Up For Hostgator?

I'd love to offer bonuses rewarding people that use my affiliate link, but sadly this is against Hostgators Affiliate Terms.:(

How ever I'm not the type of person that will recommend a product or service and not offer my personal help or support.

So if you decided to use Hostgator I'm going to help you, need to transfer a websites or blogs over from WA hosting or another host? Just let me know and I'll do it for you.

Have question or want to know how to…….? Just contact me and I'll show you how.

    Hi Welshy,
WA member here (kmdavis).  Thanks for the info on Hostgator.  I'll probably make the move once I'm up and running good.  I was a little worried about the WA servers and couldn't find a lot of info…so this clears things up.  The blacklist issue is a bit worrysome as well.  I see you are promoting ISPIONAGE, I've not used this and I see there is a trial.  I'm working on getting some info for a campaign and I'll probably sign up for the trial once I have that info.  Any sugguesions on the tool?  The keyword research is killing me.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Gday Craig. Thanks for the no BS approach you have. It makes learning about this stuff so much easier, that way.
Look, Im having a world of trouble with getting my head around a few things ( newbie am I) I have a few websites on weebly.com and I have fast reached my quota. I am needing lots more. I have a baby host gator account and have been right thru it. I also have signed on for wordpress. What I need clarification on is probably pretty dumb, but Im new at this.
The way I understand it ( and understand is a grosse over statement!) is this: I create a blog on wordpress. I transfer the info/blog via FTP to my gator account which I have set up a domain for. Lets use the example that I am currently doing: Dog Training. I have half a dozen websites targeting different towns for dog training, each website dedicated to that town. BUT theres ALOT of towns I need to customise these websites to.
Do I do an individual blog entry for say thistown.dogtraining.wordpress.com and then transfer it over to Gator, then follow thru and do anothertown.dogtraining.wordpress.com and produce another website for that????
Have I made this all too hard for myself?? Im just not getting the link between wordpress and WA hosting/Gator hosting. Do I need to produce a page elsewhere and load it on to Gator/Wahosting?
SOooo new to website building as is bleedingly obvious.
Thanks in advance for reading this.
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

Sorry for this late reply, been very busy with some off-line tasks.

Well first off if you have a BABY account already with Hostgator, forget about WA hosting and creating blogs on wordpress.com.

If you have a domain for the blog, you simple install wordpress from inside the cpanel using Fantastico. You can do this with just a few clicks.

In regards to your example it's hard to give you my opinion because it would change depending on the niche etc.

How ever, lets say your main blog was about Dog Training, you could use Categories as towns, that way you would only need one domain/blog.

Feel free to contact me privately if you want.

    Hi Kevin,

I'm no longer a member of iSpionage, it's a great tool and I'll probably use it again, but right now I have other things on the go.

The only bad thing I have to say about iSionage is it's another monthly fee,  would be great if it was a one time payment.

My #1 keyword research tool is Market Samurai not sure what the price is because I purchased it long time ago, but they probably have a 30day trial.
It's also way more than just a keyword research tool.

Hey Craig, Just thought I would say Hi more than anything… hope life is treating you well.
Thanks for your straight up comparison, I really appreciate it.
My next niche will use my hostgator account with WP. I have various sites and 3 of them are with WA but I constantly have to make adjustments because of using to much bandwith plus I keep getting the nag emails long after the issue has been corrected.
    Take Care,
    Bob
