How To Upload & Install WP Theme's & Plugins

Learn how to install a wordpress theme or plugins, in the short video below I show you how to install a theme and plugin via the blog admin area plus via core ftp.

Note: Always check that the blog is working after you install a new plugin or theme, if you run into any problems deactivate or delete the last item uploaded or activated.  Several times I've had people come to me asking for help with the wordpress blank page problem. The home page and admin login page is completely blank.

This is normally caused when a plugin is causing a conflict or not compatible with the current version of wordpress.
If this happens to you, login to your hosting via file manager or ftp, delete or rename the last plugin installed. Check to see if it solved the problem, if it didn't try the another plugin.  When doing this via ftp you can see the date and time the plugin folder was uploaded, this is good if you can't remember what the last plugin uploaded was called.

Hi Dan, The plugin I use is called “Do Follow” it removes the nofollow attribute that WordPress adds to all comments.

  6. This is a very useful video. It is a must to see for those people who are just new with wordpress. I must also say that your instructions are easy to follow.

  7. Hi Welshy, thanks for the video, as a wordpress newbie I found it really helpful.  I was feeling a bit confused with all the options available.  Thanks to you I now have a sweet theme installed and have also added numerous up to date plugins.
Im only just starting to play with wordpress, I usually build pretty ugly sites with dreamweaver.  Im really impressed with all the themes and plugins that are available with wordpress.  It makes building websites so fast and easy.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge

  8. Great video, it's good to see step by step how to build a blog the right way, sometimes it's overwhelming to see hundreds of themes and plugins and not know which ones are worth the time and energy to install.

I'll check out some of the plugins you mentioned, thanks for sharing.

  10. Thanks for the video. I learn much better visually. @sheb do you mean on the same install of WP? You can upload as many themes as you want, as far as I can tell, but you can only have one theme active at a time.

  11. I've run into this problem a couple of times with my wordpress blogs.  Thanks for clarifying some stuff in this video.  Cheers.

  12. I have about 10 blogs, and the themes are the ones configured after the initial install… Added posts, added plugins, and now, there are a number of themes I found that are quite good, I like more… Problem is, I'm still having double thoughts on activitating a new theme on my current working blogs… I haven't also did updates on my wordpress blogs, and the plugin updates…. Glad to find that modifying the wordpress files through file manager/ftp is ok…

  13. Great information, Lol its real basic but I have just started using wordpress and did not want to make any mistakes.

  14. Nice post and thanks for the helpful video. WordPress themes may seem semi-complicated to install at first, but after you get the first one under your belt, the rest are a breeze. (I say "the rest" because there are so many cool themes out there – you might just find  yourself updating every now and then!).
